The day
Shot entirely outdoors in a garden thick with oak canopy and orange blooms. She wore a white off-shoulder dress with a full skirt, he wore a black vest over rolled white sleeves. Most of the frames have them moving: walking a dirt path, spinning with hands linked, one full dip and kiss in the middle of a flower bed. Several are finished in black and white where the leaves behind them went too busy in color.
How it was shot
Sun through an oak canopy gives you a hundred bright holes and no even light. I put them where a trunk or a branch blocked the sun directly behind their heads, used the leaves as a scrim, then shot wide open with flowers hanging in front of the lens so the frame closes in around them. Spins need a burst and some nerve. The keeper is usually a frame or two after the skirt reaches full width, not at it.
