The day
The ceremony ran inside a church with a stained glass rose window over the altar and candles lit along the front. There is a candle moment partway through, the two of them holding tapers together while the room watched. Reception was a space with tall windows and city lights past them, and the first dance happened inside a low cloud of dry ice. We finished outside after dark on a balcony above the water.
How it was shot
Churches punish a meter. That window behind the altar sits several stops above the aisle, so we shot wide open, exposed for their faces, and held the glass back in the grade instead of letting it go to paper white. Dry ice brings its own problem: it flattens contrast and gives autofocus nothing to grab, so the dance was pulled by hand. The balcony frame needed a small light on them, otherwise the skyline wins and they turn into silhouettes.
