The day
The day opened in a bright getting-ready room, robe on, then a hand writing vows out longhand. Ceremony ran outdoors under a white pergola strung with lights, hedge behind it, a small flower girl first down the aisle and a lasso looped over both of them at the altar. Bridesmaids wore every shade of red. Groom in a white dinner jacket. Portraits by the water below a tile-roofed building and palms. Reception closed with a cake in orange and navy, anime figure standing on top.
How it was shot
Hardest exposure of the day was the ceremony. White dinner jacket, white gown, deep red roses, all sitting under flat overcast light. Open up for the whites and the reds turn to mush; protect the reds and the jacket goes gray. I metered for the jacket and pulled the red channel back by hand later. The other job was the crowd. Guests pressed into the aisle with phones up the whole time, so I stopped fighting it and shot through them.
