Shooting in Pasadena
Pasadena's older architecture rewards a first look and a longer portrait window, because the good light here bounces off stone and stucco rather than pouring in flat. Late afternoon is when the San Gabriel foothills glow and the garden venues stop being harsh. Summer inland runs hot, often mid-90s by August, so if you are outdoors at a place like Descanso or Ambassador Gardens, plan the ceremony for the shade or the back half of the day and keep water on hand for the party.

The Langham Huntington is the grand hotel option with a Japanese garden and a real ballroom, though it books far ahead. For historic character, Castle Green and The Maxwell House are both turn-of-the-century landmarks in Old Pasadena, and for gardens, Descanso Gardens and Ambassador Gardens give you greenery without leaving the city. The Old Mill is a smaller, quieter pick with adobe walls and a lot of texture.

They can. Pasadena sits inland against the foothills, so July and August afternoons regularly hit the low-to-mid 90s, hotter than the coast. If your venue is outdoor and garden-heavy, we suggest a later ceremony start, shaded seating, and building the reception around sundown when it cools off noticeably.
