Austin, TX

Austin is hill country light, warm stone and long evenings. Outdoor ceremonies here need a heat plan as much as a rain plan.

Worth knowing

Shooting in Austin

Hill Country light is the reason to shoot late here. Afternoons through summer are hot and bright, often mid-90s or higher, so the good, warm portrait light comes in the last hour before sunset when the stone and grass go gold. Many of the best venues sit out in Dripping Springs and the hills west of town, a 30-to-45 minute drive from downtown, so we plan the timeline and guest logistics around that distance. Spring wildflower season and fall are the comfortable windows; midsummer means an evening ceremony and shade for the party.

Speed

The industry standard for wedding photos is eight to ten weeks, and for films it is often longer. We think that is far too long to wait to see the best day of your life.

Austin full-day photography usually falls between $3,000 and $8,000, depending on hours, second shooter, and whether film is included. Our collections start at $2,599 and one team shoots photo and film together, so you get both from a single booking. We cover Texas regularly and fold travel into the quote.

Downtown, The Driskill is the historic grand-hotel option and The LINE Austin gives you lake and skyline views. For Hill Country ranch and barn weddings, Vista West Ranch, Prospect House, and Ma Maison out in Dripping Springs are the standards, and Barr Mansion is a restored Victorian estate closer in. Most couples pick between a walkable downtown venue and a drive-out property with land and sunset views.

Spring, roughly March through May, and fall, October into November, are the comfortable seasons, with spring catching wildflower season in the Hill Country. Summer is genuinely hot, often mid-90s to over 100, so a July or August wedding works best with a late-afternoon or evening ceremony and shade for guests. We schedule portraits for the last hour of daylight year-round because that is when Austin's light is at its best.
